[Home] - Favorite Software (Mozilla Firefox, BBEdit, and DEVONthink) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was just thinking that it's been fifteen years since I switched to Apple products 100%. Kind of hard to believe that it's been that long a time but it has. Since then I have owned several MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs and I've fought my way through upgrading and/or clean installing twelve versions of macOS/OSX. I was going over these years in my head when I realized that there are only three pieces of software that I've used more than five years consecutively. The first being Mozilla Firefox (18 years), followed by BBEdit (15 years), and finally DEVONthink (10 years).

Now that I really think about it I can truthfully say that I've been a Mozilla user since the wee early days. lol. I clearly remember using Mozilla Suite, an application suite containing a browser, email client, and RSS news reader, which was itself based on the Netscape Communicator web browser. Prior to that I used the original Netscape Navigator (1996) browser. Firefox, initially called Phoenix and later Firebird, came about in 2002 when Mozilla decided to spilt up the Mozilla Suite into separate individual components, the results being the Firefox web browser and the Thunderbird email client.

As you can see, i've invested far too much time and effort into Mozilla to even consider switching to another browser like Chrome or even Apple's own Safari. Besides, to me, Firefox feels like home. It's familiar, well-known, and comforting. The same can be said about the other two programs in my list. I've been writing text documents, creating websites, and programming with BBEdit since I got my first MacBook and I've been collecting, storing, and collating notes and various other miscellaneous forms of data with DEVONthink since 2010.
